ACQWA Project (Assessing Climate impacts on the Quantity and quality of WAter)
The ACQWA Project (Assessing Climate impacts on the Quantity and quality of WAter) is a large-scale integrating project funded by the 7th Framework Programme of the European Union. It involves 35 international partners and a budget of EURO 6.5 million.
Within this project VAW is investigating the stability of steep temperate glacier tongues. Our main objectives within this project are:
- Investigating the dynamic of the steep glacier tongue of Triftgletscher (Bernese Alps, Switzerland)
- Analysis of the seismic activity of the glacier tongue, especially during so-called "active phases" in summer
- Development of an early warning system capable to detect the instability of a large portion of the glacier tongue
